Efficient one-pot synthesis of 1-carbamatoalkyl-2-naphthols using aluminum methanesulfonate as a reusable catalyst

Abstract

A wide range of 1-carbamatoalkyl-2-naphthols were synthesized via a one-pot three-component condensation of 2-naphthol, aldehydes, and carbamates in the presence of aluminum methanesulfonate at 70 °C under solvent-free conditions. The catalyst is reusable and could be recycled for several runs without any distinct decrease in its efficiency. A plausible mechanism for this three-component reaction was proposed.
