Chordoid glioma: A new paradigm of hypothalamic dysfunction?

To the Editor,

We have read with great interest the article recently published by Calanchini et al. in Pituitary (2016; 19: 356–361), dealing with an extraordinary association between SIADH and a chordoid glioma (CG) of the third ventricle. As the authors state, CG represents a rare neoplasm supposedly arising in the organum vasculosum of the lamina terminalis that slowly grows into the anterior-inferior portion of the third ventricular chamber, distorting its walls. Definitive conclusions concerning its clinical profile, radiological characteristics and therapeutic management are lacking, since most information available in the scientific literature comes from only a few case reports. Nevertheless, it is our opinion that the clinician facing such a challenging tumor may benefit from available theoretical models based on the study of other types of more frequent tumors displaying this topography [1].
