A generalized design of one dimensional photonic crystal based optical filter with lossy materials

A fully generalized analytical method has been formulated for the design of a Photonic crystal based optical band-pass filter with lossy materials. The losses have been considered within the constitutive materials, both for crystals and defects. Relations between the material’s loss-tangent and resonator’s mode amplitudes have been understood. The optimum filter structures for any refractive index ratio have been found and tolerance level of such design has been estimated. Finally, a FDTD simulation based results have been presented, to verify the transmission spectra of such optimized filter structures.
