High cold plastic deformation of die steel 4Kh5VF1S subjected to hardening and tempering

  • Published:
Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Preliminary results of cold compaction of rapidly hardened spherical granules of a Ti – Al – Cr – Mn alloy by the method of cold upsetting under conditions of uniform hydrostatic compression are presented. The compacted powder test piece exhibits cold strain with traces of plastic slip in the process of the upsetting. The cylindrical plunger from steel 4Kh5VF1S with microhardness 48 – 51 HRC used to upset the test piece under a total load of 00 ton acquires a barrel shape under the high plastic strain that corresponds to about 20% total plastic deformation (growth in diameter). The quenched material exhibits no cracks; lines of plastic flow are detected on a lap.
