NUTS3 and arable areas The area in hectares (ha) of the NUTS3 region and the area of arable land in that region EEA (2014)
Annual precipitation The mean annual precipitation in millimetres (mm) for the NUTS3 region JRC (2012a)
Soil texture Dominant surface textural class of the soil. Class used is the majority value in the NUTS3 region JRC (2012b)
Water stress The water stress in the region. The mean value is used for the NUTS3 region Vörösmarty et al. (2010)
Annual temperature The mean annual temperature value for the NUTS3 region Climate Research Unit (2017)
Ecological zone The IPCC Ecological Zone. Class used is the majority value in the NUTS3 region ESDAC (2017a)
Soil hydraulic conductivity The soil hydraulic conductivity. The mean value is used for the NUTS3 region ESDAC (2017b)
Gradient The typical gradient in the region. Majority value for the NUTS3 region is used based on SLOPEM value from dataset ESDAC (2017c)
Average field size The average field size. The mean value is used for the NUTS3 region (Note: field sizes are likely to be highly variable within a region. It should be acknowledged that the average could be skewed and that this is a crude regional value) ESDAC (2017d)
Buffering capacity of soils and rocks The anion filtering capacity of soils used as the basis for determining a class for the NUTS3 region from very low to very high ESDAC (2017c)
Acid deposition Estimated acid deposition. The mean value is used for the NUTS3 region EEA (2017)
Nutrient deposition Estimated nutrient deposition. The mean value is used for the NUTS3 region EEA (2017)
