Synthesis, characterization, and dilatometric studies on some 7O.Om liquid crystalline compounds

The synthesis, characterization of N-(4-heptyloxy benzylidene)-4-alkoxy anilines, 7O.Om compounds with varying alkoxy chain length m = 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 16 is presented in this manuscript. Further, the phase transition studies are also carried out from density measurements. The compounds are found to exhibit mono variant, bi variant, and tri variant mesophases. The order of the phase transitions from density jumps are estimated and compared with the body of the data available.
