Letter to the Editor: “Distribution and assessment of radionuclides in sediments, soil and water from the lower basin of river Pra in the central and western regions of Ghana” (DOI 10.1007/s10967-014-3637-5)

Dear Sir,

I read an interesting article which has been published recently in your esteemed journal (J Radioanal Nucl Chem (2015) 303:1679–1685; DOI  10.1007/s10967-014-3637-5). The authors present a detailed study on natural radioactivity concentrations in sediments, soil and water from the lower basin of river Pra in the Central and Western Regions of Ghana. I appreciate their efforts and obtained results in this study. The results are valuable in respect to the public health. However, I would like to draw your kind attention in the following aspects.

    The authors (Adukpo et al.) reported the minimum detectable activities (MDA) as 238U (0.12 Bq kg−1), 232Th (0.11 Bq kg−1) and 40K (0.15 Bq kg−1) of the detector. Although no reference is given in calculation of MDA, I assumed that the authors used the conventional formula to obtain the MDA values.
