It could be said that The Journal of Religion and Health has evolved as one of the premier journals in the field of religion and health research because of the growing awareness within world culture of the important role human spirituality plays in shaping the way human life, in all its extraordinary variety, has been lived on our fragile planet. Because of its profound motivational capacity, human spirituality, for good or ill, is one of the driving forces in our world. When we look at the scholarly work reported in the pages of the Journal, by our colleagues around the world, it is as if each issue introduces yet another facet of this historical and cultural force that we are all trying to understand, appreciate, and evaluate as we face the urgent questions of our future.
