Burkholderia gladioli is a rare human pathogen, and pulmonary infections occur almost exclusively in cystic fibrosis, chronic granulomatous disease and lung transplant patients [1, 2, 3]. A single case of disseminated disease was described in a woman with anti-interferon gamma (IFNγ) autoantibodies . Other opportunistic infections are common with defects in the IFNγ/Interleukin-12 (IL-12) pathway . While high-titer neutralizing anti-IL-12 autoantibodies can occur with thymoma, their association with infections has not been clearly established [6, 7, 8]. We report a case of severe B. gladioli infection associated with autoantibodies to IL-12p70 in a Southeast Asian woman with recurring B. gladioli suppurative lymphadenitis.
A 45-year-old Cambodian woman presented with 2 months of progressive left-sided cervical lymphadenitis and tonsillitis. Approximately 2 years earlier she had similar findings on the right side of her neck when excisional lymph node...
