Synthesis and Characterization of a Novel Conformation of 2,9,10-Tribromoanthracene-1,4-dione

Synthesis and X-ray analysis of single crystals of 2,9,10-tribromoanthracene-1,4-dione 4 has been described and its novel conformation is reported. Single crystals were grown by slow evaporation technique from toluene solution at −15 °C. The compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, Mass and NMR spectroscopy. The compound crystallizes in the triclinic space group P−1 with unit cell dimensions a = 7.6842(2), b = 9.4865(2), c = 19.9388(4) Å, α = 78.784(5), β = 76.980(5), γ = 67.834(4) Å; V: 1,301.75(7) Å3; Z = 2, R 1 = 0.0748, and wR 2 = 0.131.
