The anthology Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker: PhysicsPhilosophyPeace Researchcame about after a series of lectures at the Leopoldina symposium on the occasion of the centennial birthday of Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker (hereinafter CFvW). The aim was to create a publication that would examine the essential aspects of the life and works of CFvW. This is a difficult task, given the complexity of his personality, the great extent of the topics he dealt with, the multitude of strands of activity and the historical contexts. In order to stay abreast of his great versatility, his intermittent meandering between fields, such as nuclear physics, cosmology, philosophy, peace research, religion and policy (15), but also to take into account the aspects of his work that do not seamlessly fit together, the editors chose, according to their own indications, a “poly-perspective approach” (15).
