Abstract
This study aims to take an in-depth look at the role of emotional intelligence and personality traits in relation to career decision difficulties. The Italian version of the Career Decision Difficulties Questionnaire (CDDQ), the Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory: Short (Bar-On EQ-i: S), and the Big Five Questionnaire (BFQ) were administered to 296 interns of the tertiary sector. The emotional intelligence dimensions add a significant percentage of incremental variance compared to variances due to personality traits with respect to career decision difficulties. The results highlight the role of emotional intelligence and its relationship with career decision difficulties.

Intelligence émotionnelle, traits de personnalité et difficultés de décision de carrière. Cette étude vise à examiner en profondeur le rôle de l’intelligence émotionnelle et des traits de personnalité par rapport aux difficultés de décision de carrière. La version italienne du Career Decision Difficulties Questionnaire (CDDQ), du Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory: Short (Bar-On EQ-i: S) et du Big Five Questionnaire (BFQ) a été administrée à 296 internes du secteur tertiaire. Les dimensions de l’intelligence émotionnelle ajoutent un pourcentage significatif de variance par comparaison à la variance due aux traits de personnalité par rapport aux difficultés de décision de carrière. Les résultats mettent en relief le rôle de l’intelligence émotionnelle et de ses rapports avec des difficultés de décision de carrière.
Zusammenfassung
Emotionale Intelligenz, Persönlichkeitsmerkmale und Schwierigkeiten bei berufsbezogenen Entscheidungen. Diese Untersuchung will einen vertieften Blick auf die Bedeutung der emotionalen Intelligenz und von Persönlichkeitsmerkmalen im Hinblick auf Schwierigkeiten bei berufsbezogenen Entscheidungen darstellen. Die italienischen Versionen von drei Fragebögen—Career Decision Difficulties Questionnaire (CDDQ); Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory: Short (Bar-On EQ-i: S); Big Five Questionnaire (BFQ)—wurden 296 Studenten im tertiären Bildungssektor vorgelegt. Im Hinblick auf berufsbezogene Entscheidungsschwierigkeiten ergaben die Dimensionen der emotionalen Intelligenz einen signifikant höheren Anteil der inkrementellen Varianz als dies bei den Varianzen zu Persönlichkeitsmerkmalen der Fall war. Diese Ergebnisse betonen die Bedeutung der emotionalen Intelligenz und deren Bezug zu berufsbezogenen Entscheidungsschwierigkeiten.

Inteligencia emocional, rasgos de personalidad y dificultades en la toma de decisiones profesionales. En este estudio se examina el rol de la inteligencia emocional y los rasgos de personalidad en relación a las dificultades en la toma de decisiones profesionales. La versión italiana del Cuestionario de Dificultades en la toma de Decisiones Profesionales (Career Decision Difficulties Questionnaire—CDDQ), del Inventario sobre el Cociente Emocional Bar-On (Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory: Bar-On EQ-i: S), y del Big Five Questionnaire (BFQ) se administró a 296 personas en prácticas en el sector terciario. Las dimensiones de la inteligencia emocional añaden un porcentaje significativo de varianza incremental a la varianza producida por rasgos de la personalidad en relación a las dificultades en la toma de decisiones profesionales. Los resultados resaltan la importancia del rol de la inteligencia emocional y su relación con las dificultades en la toma de decisiones profesionales.
