Entanglement Swapping and Detection in the Trapped-Ion Systems

We propose a scheme to realize entanglement swapping, entangling two distant ions without a direct interaction in the trapped-ion systems. The two ions without interacting previously can be entangled with the success probability unity. This scheme does not need Bell-state measurement and is insensitive to the thermal motion.
