Electron conversion as a tool for investigation of nuclear polariton effects

Abstract

The time domain spectra of the conversion electrons, created by a pulse of the resonant synchrotron radiation in a thick Mössbauer absorber, have been considered. It is shown that such spectra can give significant information about the evolution of collective nuclear excitations. In particular, the drastic differences between the coherent de-excitation processes on the frontal and the back surfaces of the sample and the different evolution of the forward-scattered radiation and the nuclear polarization have been pointed out.
