Secondary Metabolites of an Endophytic Fungus Phomopsis castaneae-mollissimae

Endophytic fungi are microorganisms that colonize the tissues of healthy plants without causing apparent harm [1]. They are attracting attention as potential sources of novel and biologically active natural products [2]. Endophytic Phomopsis species have gained attention in most cases involving metabolite research, which has led to the discovery of various bioactive secondary metabolites [3]. In the course of our previous studies on the bioactivity of endophytic fungi from medicinal plants and their different solvent extracts, some endophytic fungi with various bioactivities have been isolated [4, 5]. As part of our systematic search for new bioactive compounds from endophytic fungi, the endophytic fungus Phomopsis castaneae-mollissimae, isolated from the traditional Chinese medicinal plant Artemisia annua, was selected for chemical and biological investigations. We have studied the secondary metabolites of this strain and obtained six compounds (1–6).
