A New Biphenanthrene Glucoside with Cytotoxic Activity from Cremastra appendiculata

A new biphenanthrene glucoside, named 2′,7-dihydroxy-4,4′-dimethoxy-1,1′-biphenanthrene-2,7′-di-O-β-D-glucoside, together with four known compounds were isolated from the tubers of Cremastra appendiculata (D. Don) Makino. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral data. The cytotoxic activitiy of the new compound and four known compounds was tested.
