Physical and mathematical models of a mechanical-draft cooling tower with a new wire packing protected by a Russian Federation patent, and drip irrigation are examined. The following auxiliary parameters are determined experimentally on a prototype laboratory device: holding capacity with respect to water, heatand mass-transfer coefficients, and the porosity of the packing. A procedure and algorithm are developed, and an example is cited for an analysis, which indicates superiority of drip-type cooling towers (mass- and heat-transfer coefficients higher by 10% and almost an order, respectively.)
