Globular Star Cluster Systems Around Galaxies. I. Search for Statistical Relationships

  • Published:
Astrophysics Aims and scope

Our earlier composite catalog [1] of systems of globular star clusters around galaxies has been substantially extended with the addition of observational data published over the last decade and now includes 252 systems. The new catalog is analyzed statistically. Empirical relationships among the main physical parameters of systems of globular clusters and their host galaxies are found. These relationships apply with adequate accuracy to elliptical and lenticular galaxies in isolation. The problems with classifying systems of globular clusters and the relations of these systems to their host galaxies are discussed.
