Abstract
Focal epilepsy accounts for approximately 40% of epilepsy syndromes. These are often diseases in which epilepsy is the result of acquired damage to the brain parenchyma, e.g. hippocampal sclerosis and glioneuronal tumors. In this review, in contrast to acquired damage focal epilepsies with a genetic background and an entry in the online Mendelian inheritance in man (OMIM) database are presented as examples. The genetic background was clarified as a result of the imaging findings.
