Preface Series B

On May 26 and 27, 2017, a 2-day interdisciplinary Conference on Nonconvex Statistical Learning was held on the campus of the University of Southern California. The motivation of this conference stems from the increasing interest in the use of nonconvex functionals and their optimization in modeling and solving statistical learning problems. This special volume contains a subset of papers presented at the conference together with submissions received through a general call to the broad community. Through a referee process similar to all papers published in the Mathematical Programming journals, a collection of seventeen papers on different topics is accepted for publication; below we give an overview of these papers.
