Zusammenfassung
Hintergrund
Abstract
Background
Teaching within a daily hospital routine is recognized as an integrative concept for the collaborative fulfillment of tasks in patient care with a minimum expenditure of time. The learners (students/trainees) receive specific work assignments through which they learn. The teaching opportunities derived from clinical observations are addressed by the teachers as specific and relevant learning objectives. The learners are therefore obliged to complete the work assignments in a timely and careful manner.
Objective
This article describes the implementation of teachable moments as a practical and effective way to make learning tangible in clinical practice and to make it more useful for the work process. Implementation of the concept of teachable moments is comprised of four steps: (1) observation by the teacher, (2) definition of learning objectives or work assignments, (3) gaining knowledge and skills by the learners and (4) communication of results and feedback.
