Eine qualitative Untersuchung

Zusammenfassung

Hintergrund

Die chronisch obstruktive Lungenerkrankung (COPD) wird aktuell als die vierthäufigste Todesursache weltweit beschrieben. Die Anwendung einer Langzeitsauerstofftherapie ist bei COPD-Patienten sehr verbreitet. Erkenntnisse darüber, wie COPD-Patienten ihren Alltag mit dem zusätzlichen Sauerstoff gestalten und erleben, sind weitgehend unerforscht.

Zielstellungen

Ziel dieser Untersuchung war es daher, Einblicke in das Erleben und Gestalten des Alltages von betroffenen Patienten mit neu verordnetem Heimsauerstoff zu erhalten.

Methodik

Qualitative, problemzentrierte Interviews wurden durchgeführt.

Ergebnisse

Positive, aber auch negative Alltagseinflüsse wurden von Betroffenen beschrieben und in einem Kategoriensystem in der Untersuchung angeführt.

Diskussion/Schlussfolgerungen

Aus den Ergebnissen wurden Schlussfolgerungen für einen Therapieerfolg gezogen bzw. Verbesserungsvorschläge von Patientenseite bezüglich der Sauerstoffgeräte herausgearbeitet. Diese Erkenntnisse wurden an die zuständige Sauerstoffversorgungsfirma weitergeleitet.

Zusammenfassung

Background

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) currently ranks as the fourth most common cause of death worldwide. It is very common for COPD patients to have long-term oxygen therapy in the home environment. However, there is hardly any information as to how patients with COPD actually manage their daily life with the additional oxygen.

Aims

Therefore, the aim of this study was to gain insights into how COPD patients experience and live their daily life with the newly prescribed home oxygen.

Methods

Qualitative data were collected by means of problem- based, semi-structured interviews (n = 8). Results Patients described both the positive and negative effects on their everyday life, which were listed in a system of categories.

Discussion/Conclusions

The results allow for conclusions on the success of this therapy, as well as suggestions for improvement to long-term oxygen equipment from the patients’ point of view. These conclusions were forwarded to the relevant oxygen company.
