Abstract

This article describes the fabrication of a three phase switched reluctance machine with stator claw poles using a novel additive manufacturing technology called 3D multi material printing, which allows the use of metals and ceramics in one printing job. Thus, it becomes possible for the first time to produce all electromagnetic components of an electric machine by additive manufacturing. The focus of the paper is on the possibility to realize winding structures with the substitution of the conventional polymer-based insulation with ceramics, offering better thermal properties. This can be used to increase the overload capacity and the power density. The design of the machine is mainly defined by the requirements given by the additive manufacturing process. To characterize the printed machine, the torque which depends on the rotor position, was measured and calculated with FEM-analysis. The calculation is based on the measured magnetic properties of the printed magnetic material which is compared with conventional magnetic materials of electric machines.
