Summary

Following the tradition, the 7th International Conference on Progress in Analytical Chemistry in the Steel and Metal Industries was held in Luxembourg, from May 16th to 18th, 2006. The conference was organized by CETAS (European Committee for the Study and Application of Analytical Work in the Steel Industry), supported by the European Commission and assisted by the Austrian Society of Metallurgy and Materials (ASMET). The conference has proved to be an important European platform for all chemists and experts dealing with analytical chemistry in the steel and metal industries. Invited plenary lectures and 69 session lectures were presented besides poster presentations and an exhibition. Nearly 200 participants attended this conference. Since the expansion of the European Union to the Eastern European Countries, this conference provided a new opportunity for meeting colleagues from the steel industry of Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland. Internationality was gained by a high number of participants from China, Japan and South Korea.
