Abstract
The frozen elephant trunk technique constitutes an evolution of the conventional elephant trunk technique, which facilitates a definitive treatment of aortic pathologies encompassing both the aortic arch and the descending aorta. Furthermore, it facilitates a secondary surgical or endovascular repair of residual pathologies. The hybrid prosthesis is composed of a vascular prosthesis for replacement of the aortic arch and reimplantation of the cranial vessels as well as a stent graft for treatment of the descending aorta. This article describes the technical aspects of the operation and the experiences of the authors with the E‑vita open hybrid stent graft prosthesis.
