Don Frush: Karen and I would like to welcome everyone to this ALARA conference. It is a great pleasure and honor to have both an outstanding faculty as well as an expert audience in what we hope is an interactive and engaging forum, so that we can come away with mutual understanding, objectives, and plans for improving the safety and quality of care in children who may require imaging evaluation in the emergency setting. This conference is in fact a consensus conference, it is not radiologists versus emergency care providers, it is a group that has similar goals and will hopefully derive tangible objectives that we can collectively follow once this conference is finished.

The course objectives are a little different from those of most conferences. This is not a disorder-based conference. We are not talking specifically about pulmonary embolism or appendicitis.
