On the index of contact and multiplicities¶for bigraded rings

Abstract:

We prove that the index of contact p(Z,S)(c) of a set Z with a submanifold S at a point c∈ reg(Z∩S) at which Z is normal pseudo-flat along Z∩S coincides with the Samuel multiplicity of the associated graded ring and give various methods of computing this invariant at such points.
