  1. Routines in this context are defined in a similar fashion as in the sense of Nelson and Winter (1982). However, in Schenk's approach, the concept is not related to intra-organizational characteristics but to the characteristics of interactions across extra-organizational interfaces with a special focus on those that take place between organizations and other subsystems on higher levels of the economic system (such as government departments).
