Abstract
The effect of zoledronic acid was investigated in a rat model to counteract the bone loss at the humeral head of chronic rotator cuff lesions. A total of 32 male Sprague-Dawley rats underwent a unilateral tenotomy of the supraspinatus tendon. Three weeks later, all animals underwent transosseous rotator cuff reconstruction. Zoledronic acid provides an increase of bone microarchitecture at the humeral head as well as improved biomechanical properties of the enthesis compared to an untreated control group.
