Abstract

Due to an increase in sporting activities, the number of injuries of the immature knee is continuously increasing. A rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament implies appropriate treatment regarding its particular anatomy, with open growth plates. Clinical results for conservative treatment of ruptures of the anterior cruciate ligament suggest that it is less efficacious compared to operative treatment. The transepiphyseal reconstruction has shown to be a safe treatment method and provides good clinical results. Future treatment may involve the use of allografts as well as augmented suture repair.
