Nadelholzrinde an.

of soft wood bark are separated annually in the context of mechanical and chemical wood processing. Bark is used mainly as energy source and as soil conditioner in horticulture. However, the relatively low nitrogen content of bark on the one side and its high extractive content of polyphenolic compounds (Tannins) on the other side are serious drawbacks for its use for such purposes. Tannins can be extracted using hot water. Moreover, it was found that extraction of bark with aqueous urea solutions or prepolymers of urea and formaldehyde increases the yield of extractives and their reactivity towards formaldehyde, at the same time it also increases the nitrogen content in the extracted bark.
Recycled UF-boards can be used as a source of area.
This seems to be a good premise for the production of bark fiber material with high suitability for horticultural purposes.
