Abstract

This article focuses on the evaluation of utility properties of refractory materials based on the results of laboratory test. For materials used for metal casting their resistance to corrosive action of melts is a crucial property. Especially some types of alloy steels are very aggressive. Several types of high quality materials, capable of withstanding a long-term exposure to molten steel at high temperatures and suitable for gating systems for steel casting in steel plants, have been developed in SEEIF Ceramic, a.s. Several properties of this materials were evaluated, especially regarding corrosion resistance. The possibility of evaluating utility properties of refractories by determining the wetting angle is also discussed.
