Density of refractories significantly affects their properties in terms of both their physical and mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance in general. The increase in utility properties, especially resistance to corrosion, is possible not only through the use of appropriate raw material composition but also by attaining lower porosity and higher density refractory material, which reduces the infiltration of unwanted elements into the structure of the refractory material.

Influence density refractory material on their final properties is described by several examples. In the petrochemical industry there is a quality mark A60SLP based on andalusite, in the cement industry for lining of rotary kilns is the material ARS60SLP is used and in the glass industry the quality mark A75MEG is designated.
