Energy Efficiency of High Temperature Tunnel Kilns

Abstract

The tunnel kiln is the heart of many refractory plants. Over the last two decades both service and maintenance have increasingly been neglected. This regrettable lapse is an often short-sighted response to strong international competition and the price pressures of the market. This article addresses some principles and methods to optimize the energy efficiency of a tunnel kiln by common sense measures that observe the inherent limits of the technology.
