Abstract
This article deals with the reduction of wall friction in a screw press by means of electroosmosis. The aim was to reduce the material humidity and thereby to save drying energy or to decrease the power consumption of the press with the extrusion force in both cases remaining constant. To investigate and quantify this effect a piston press with core die and appropriate electrode adjustment was constructed. As testing materials clays of various brick manufacturers were used. For all clays a reduction in extrusion force was observed with plastic roof tile clays showing slight better results than less plastic shale clays. Problems of this process are the anode corrosion and the high construction effort for huge presses.
