A Tale of Eating: Writing as a Pathway Out of an Eating Disorder

Abstract

This prose/poetry tale examines the use of writing as a pathway out of an eating disorder. In highlighting the need for persons with an eating problem to find their own voice, to be able to describe experience in their own words rather than the restrictive narrative of an eating problem, it shows how creative writing can assist in the opening up of this closed narrative. It also stresses the value of eliciting reflective, as well as affective responses to texts.
