Abstract

Mannesmann AG. has started up two more continuous casting machines according to the oval bow-type principle to cast slabs with a width of 800 to 2,100 mm. In the very first month of operation a production of 33,000 metric tons of continuously cast slabs was achieved. A machine description is given and the initial experience discussed. New features include progressive or multi-stage straightening of the slabs according to the oval bow principle, a novel withdrawal machine that both supports and withdraws the slab, and a new infinitely adjustable mold.
