Abstract
The growing need for a means of rapidly melting scrap in steelmaking practice is briefly discussed. The Shell Toroidal burner designed for melting such cold charges is described, and its application to open-hearth furnaces and Fuel-Oxygen-Scrap (FOS) furnaces is discussed.
