Zur Frage der Reproduzierbarkeit der Bewertungen von Nebenaufgaben im Fahrzeug mit dem Lane Change Test (LCT)

Zusammenfassung

Beim Lane Change Test (LCT) handelt es sich um eine sehr einfache Simulation von Teilen der primären Fahraufgabe, die als Verfahren zur Bewertung der Ablenkungspotenziale von Nebenaufgaben im Fahrzeug weite Beachtung gefunden hat. Eine noch weitgehend ungeklärte Frage betrifft dabei die Reliabilität des Verfahrens. Darüber hinaus muss davon ausgegangen werden, dass Ergebnisse von Bewertungen mit dem LCT in nicht unerheblichem Ausmaß von Trainingseffekten beeinflusst werden. Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird eine experimentelle Untersuchung dargestellt, mit der auf verschiedenen Wegen versucht wurde, Reliabilitätskennwerte für den LCT zu bestimmen und Übungseffekte zu beschreiben.

On the reproducibility of in-vehicle secondary task assessments with the Lane Change Test (LCT)

Abstract

The Lane Change Test LCT is a very simple simulation of the primary driving task presented on a PC screen which requires regular lane changes indicated by signs on both sides of the road and expresses secondary tasks demands as the mean deviation of the actual track from a virtual ‘optimum track’. The importance and significance of the findings resulting from the application of the LCT also depends essentially on its reliability. Because there is a lack of evidence as to whether this basic criterion of measurement is met with the LCT, and because questionable reliability can lead to doubts about their validity, the first goal of the experiment presented here was to clarify this issue. A second related goal concerns training effects and their impacts on secondary task assessments using the LCT. It can reasonably be expected that LCT performance improves with increasing practice. This means that individual differences between subjects in practice may lead to uncontrolled variance if different subjects have reached different levels of skill and some are still improving their performance by learning whereas others do not. Such effects can be expected to result in diminished reproducibility of LCT assessments. Thus, the experiment presented here explored the development of LCT performance skill and its effects on subsequent secondary task assessments.
