Handover management based on user’s mobility specification

Abstract

Considering the highly dynamic nature of wireless networks, the major challenge in this environment is the provision of QoS guarantees that different applications demand. Recent research is interested in advance resource reservation to provide the necessary QoS to the mobile terminals. Another way to obtain a better use of the resources in this environment is to determine the future locations of the mobile terminal. This paper describes a user’s mobility profile management based approach for advance resource reservation in wireless networks; it is based on theNsis signaling. This reservation is based on an objectMspec (Mobility Specification) which determines the future location of the mobile terminal. The mspec object is a part of a user’s mobility profile; this last is determined by the mobile terminal. Another applicability of our user’s mobility profile is in the 4G wireless systems, in this case; the mobile terminal supports various access technologies and the user’s mobility profile is used to adapt the vertical and the diagonal handover to the user’s needs.

Résumé

Fournir la qualité de service (QoS) nécessaire aux terminaux mobiles dans un réseau sans fil est une tâche très difficile en raison de la nature dynamique de ce type d’environnement. Récemment beaucoup de recherches s’intéressent à la réservation de ressources à l’avance afin de fournir la qualité de service nécessaire dans un réseau sans fil. La détermination de la future localisation du terminal mobile représente elle aussi un domaine de recherche très intéressant afin d’améliorer la QoS dans un environnement sans fil. Cet article décrit une nouvelle approche pour la réservation de ressources à l’avance dans un réseau sans fil basée sur le profil de mobilité de l’utilisateur. La signalisation pour la réservation de ressources est issue des travaux du groupe de travailNsis. Cette réservation est basée sur un nouvel objet nomméMspec (Mobility Specification) qui détermine les futures localisations du terminal mobile. L’objet MSpec est une partie du profil de mobilité de l’utilisateur, ce dernier est déterminé par le terminale mobile. Une autre application de notre profile de mobilité est proposée dans le cas des réseaux sans fil 4G. Dans ce cas le terminal mobile supporte plusieurs technologies d’accès, le profil de mobilité de l’utilisateur est utilisé pour adapter le transfert vertical et diagonal aux besoins de l’utilisateur.
