Longitudinal vibrations of a conical bar

  • Published:
Applied Scientific Research, Section A Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

The present paper considers longitudinal vibrations of a homogeneous truncated cone. This is probably one of the few cases relating to vibrating rods of variable cross-section, where it is possible to give an exact solution instead of using the well-known laborious approximate procedures.

In what follows we apply classical methods, although the problem in question could be treated also by means of the Laplace transformation.
