Additional information

The articles by Messrs. Prewitt, Simon, Mosteller, and Ashbrook are all based on their testimony in authorization hearings of the House Subcommittee on Science, Research, and Technology for the fiscal year 1981 budget and program of the National Science Foundation. At the end of its deliberations, the subcommittee recommended that the authorization for social and behavioral science research supported by the National Science Foundation be substantially increased.
