Endothelial dysfunction and microalbuminuria precede platelet function abnormalities in patients with insulin dependent diabetes

Conclusion

Using the above parameters, these data demonstrate that this population of type 1 diabetics have no evidence of platelet abnormalities. Further, they indicate that anti-platelet therapy is not required in the early stages of type 1 diabetes and that endothelial dysfunction precedes and is a potential mediator of diabetic platelet dysfunction.
