Abstract
Similar to the formation of first-order density matrices we can construct three-dimensional functions (here called density functions) from the 3N-dimensional solution of the manybody problem. If we choose the Hamiltonian in a suitable form the energies of atoms can be approximately calculated with the aid of these functions. Depending on the form of the wave function the deviation from the Hartree—Fock method is some tenths or some per cent. The approximation is the most accurate and the most simple in the spherically symmetrical case. The discussion is possible only for stationary problems.
