Abstract

Within the Internet Engineering Task Force a new transfer protocol called SCTP for the transmission of signalling data over IP-based networks is currently being discussed. This article introduces the protocol and the mechanisms it uses for secure and efficient transport of data, as well as properties that make it superior to established protocols like TCP or UDP. Moreover, possible application and interworking scenarios for classical telecommunication networks are described.
