Samenvatting

Toen ik de verschillende bijdragen aan dit nummer doornam om de introductie te schrijven, overviel mij een gevoel dat al eens eerder - om precies te zijn negen jaar geleden - is verwoord in dit tijdschrift door collega Frits Boer (2000): het lukte mij niet te ontsnappen aan Michael Rutter. Deze Engelse godfather van de kinder- en jeugdpsychiatrie was enkele maanden geleden te gast tijdens een symposium van de Universiteit Utrecht, waarover Rutger Jan van der Gaag rapporteert in de rubriek Opmerkelijk. Opvallend aan sir Michael, zoals Van der Gaag hem noemt, is niet alleen zijn lange staat van dienst - de internationaal zeer in het oog springende reflectie en aanvulling op Bowlby’s ‘maternal deprivation’-hypothese van Rutter verscheen al bijna vier decennia geleden (Rutter, 1972) - maar ook en vooral de brede waaier aan onderwerpen en vraagstukken waarmee deze geleerde zich heeft beziggehouden.
