Een Europees onderzoek, waarbij bijna 35.000 mannen uit de regio Rotterdam waren betrokken, geeft antwoord op de vraag of prostaatkankerscreening in de algemene bevolking kan leiden tot sterftereductie. Er werd een significant (relatief) sterfteverschil van 20% bereikt, met dien verstande dat om één sterfgeval van prostaatkanker te voorkomen 1410 mannen in de leeftijd
