Hernia: opereren of niet en wanneer?

Samenvatting

Waar elf jaar geleden een patiënt met ernstige herniaklachten nog bedrust mocht houden 1 en tegenwoordig in Nederland (en de US) relatief nog altijd vaak geopereerd wordt voor deze aandoening, is er nu een goed Nederlands onderzoek gepubliceerd waarin wordt bewezen dat niet-opereren vergeleken met wel opereren na een jaar exact hetzelfde resultaat biedt wat betreft pijn en ongemak.2 Wel ging na operatie de (been)pijn eerder over en achtten de patiënten zich sneller hersteld.
