Indien een patiënt met de klacht eczeem bij de huisarts komt, is het zinvol om eerst andere huidafwijkingen uit te sluiten en daarna de eczeemvorm te bepalen. Diagnostiek van eczeem berust op de voorgeschiedenis van de patiënt, anamnese, het beeld en de lokalisatie van het eczeem. Een probleem is dat de verschillende eczeemsoorten slecht gedefinieerd zijn en daardoor niet altijd scherp te differentiëren. In dit artikel is een overzicht gegeven van de belangrijkste kenmerken die een aantal vaak voorkomende soorten eczeem van elkaar onderscheiden.
