Abstract
De hersenen zijn een netwerk van vele miljarden zenuwcellen die elk met duizenden andere zenuwcellen verbonden zijn. De functie van dit netwerk is het verwerken van informatie uit onze omgeving, zodat een individu op een juiste manier kan reageren op de uitdagingen van alledag. Tijdens de ontwikkeling interacteren genen en omgevingsfactoren om een neuronaal circuit te vormen dat zo goed mogelijk voldoet aan de eisen van de omgeving. Hoe goed dit proces slaagt bepaalt in belangrijke mate ons iq. In dit artikel zal ik bespreken op welke wijze genen en omgeving de ontwikkeling van het neuronale circuit kunnen beïnvloeden en daardoor mede onze intelligentie bepalen.
